Here is a collection of things I know and love.
Design & Typography
The Elements of Typographic Style
A typographer's bible. This is the best book on typography to ever exist. Period.
My favorite graphic design history book. Think Megg's History of Graphic Design as cliff notes.
This book is great for anyone wanting to learn the basics of typograpy!
You have a subscription to commarts too, right?
Published during the odd months, this magazine is great for keeping up with industry trends.
Published during the even months, this magazine is basically How's twin sister.
A magazine that celebrates the artist in the designer.
Web Design & Development
A List Apart
When I feel like stretching my web muscles, I tune into this site for the latest information.
A Book Apart
Every book in the series is written by the web industry's thought-leaders. I own three books and plan to own more.
HTML & CSS
The ultimate guide book for HTML & CSS for designers. This is the book I'd recommend to anyone wanting to learn. Did I mention it's designed beautifully?
Print design meet web design. A great book for learning basic ideas/concepts in web design and development.
Responsive Web Design
Did you notice this website is responsive? This book taught me a lot, obviously.
Content strategy is the new buzz word of web design. Personally, I think every site desperately needs content strategy.
Things I Use
Thank you Shannon for telling me to get the 15". I do 90% of my work on this machine.
While I absolutely love this display in conjuncture with my MacBook Pro, I can't wait for a Retina or 4k release/upgrade.
An xmas gift from the Hubs. After having the large iPad and the mini, I'd recommend the mini. It fits better in small hands.
Even though I have to brush off the dust often, when it's needed I love it. Scans at a super high quality of 1200+ dpi.
Apple In Ear Headphones
I wear these headphones every single day. They are much more comfortable than earpods and can be worn lightly to hear others around you or tightly to block all sound.
Epson R2000 Large Format
I just upgraded this beast from the 1400. The quality is amazing and it never disappoints. Fair warning, all Epson’s have a “personality.”
I recently invested in this camera and have not regretted it. Takes nice quality photos and HD video with ease.
You should try at least one class on skillshare.com. This is how I learned calligraphy!
